University of Maine senior Karyn Magno (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Albany freshman forward Kristina Maze (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) have been named America East Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Magno tallied three goals in three games last week to lead the Black Bears in total points. She scored the game-winning goal off a penalty corner in the waning minutes of the first half of Sunday’s win over UMBC, giving Maine its first conference victory of the season. Magno also scored Maine’s insurance goal midway through the second half. Earlier in the weekend, she scored Maine’s lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Ohio State. Magno is currently third on the team in scoring with 11 points (five goals, one assist), and has scored a goal in three of Maine’s last four games.
Maze scored a goal and had an assist in Albany’s 5-3 non-conference victory against Radford on Sunday, Oct. 5. Maze scored her fourth goal of the season with 28:00 minutes remaining in the first period to give the Great Danes a 2-0 lead over the Highlanders. She setup Tina Bryson five minutes into the contest for Albany’s first goal. Maze has four goals and four assists in eight games this season, placing her fourth on the team in scoring and tied for first in assists.
