In the last week of America East cross country, Hartford was the lone school in action as the Hawks ran in the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet (Complete Results: Men|Women) last Saturday in New Britain, Conn. The men finished fourth overall behind the strong performance of Phillip Weinholtz (Hartford, Conn./Watkinson), while the women finished fifth overall in their race.
Weinholtz finished the race in 12th position overall with a time of 16:19, while his teammate Jonathan Geary (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) was right behind him in 18th place. For the women, Becky McVeigh (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) was the top finisher in 30th place with a time of 10:40 and Heather Schoonmaker (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) also had a strong performance finishing with a time of 11:24.
Other teams at the meet included Connecticut and Rhode Island, whose women’s teams were ranked 10th and 15th respectively in New England by the NEICAA, along with Quinnipiac which was ranked 11th in the men’s field.
With the men’s and women’s cross country regular season now complete, the America East teams will now compete in the conference championships this Saturday (November 1) at University at Albany.
