UMBC’s Marcus Gross (Barnstaple, England/Park School) and Gabriel Germano (Sainte Foy, Quebec/FX Garneau) of Maine were awarded America East Player of the Week and America East Rookie of the Week respectively. The Week 7 men’s soccer awards were announced Monday, October 20.
Gross tallied two goals in two conference wins for the Retrievers. His first goal, which proved to be the game-winner, came against Stony Brook as he headed the ball into the net at the 19:07 mark to give the Retrievers a 1-0 win. His second goal came in UMBC’s 3-1 victory over New Hampshire which gave the Retrievers their second conference win of the week and helped them to maintain sole possession of first place.
Germano, a freshman forward for Maine, recorded four points on two goals during the week. His first goal was the Black Bears lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Northeastern, while his second was the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Vermont.
