America East men’s and women’s cross country teams took to the course at the New England Cross Country Championships held October 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass, while the UMBC men were busy competing at the Goucher College Mid Atlantic Classic in Baltimore, Md.
New England Championships (Complete Results: Men|Women)
Boston University led all America East teams, finishing sixth overall in the men’s field and seventh overall for the women. Leading the Terrier men’s team was Jochen Dieckfoss (Tubingen, Germany/Geschwister), who finished fourth out of 317 runners with a time of 24:26. Fellow Terrier Jordan Jones (Medford, Mass./Medford) was not far behind, as he came in 15th with a time of 24:58. For the women, Jessica Iannacci (Lunenberg, Mass./Lunenberg) finished with a time of 18:20, which landed her in 18th position out of 287 runners.
Finishing behind the Terriers in the men’s field was New Hampshire (16), Maine (18), Vermont (39), Northeastern (42) and Hartford (47th). Out of the America East pack, Jeffrey Caron (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) of Maine had the third best run with a time of 25:37 and a 44th overall placing, while Jon Litchfield (Athol, Mass./Athol) of Northeastern also had a solid 72nd place finish.
Michelle Palmer (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South), who concluded with a time of 18:19 in eighth place, led the Catamounts to an 8th place finish, just 20 points behind Boston U. Rounding out the women’s field was Maine (18), Northeastern (19) and Hartford (41). Maine’s Heather Jovenelli (Brewer, Maine/Brewer) and Northeastern’s Emily Watson (Groton, Conn./Fitch) both turned in great times, placing 31st and 78th respectively.
Goucher College Mid Atlantic Classic (Complete Results: Men) The UMBC men’s cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 as they cruised to a first place finish at the Mid Atlantic Classic. J.J. Wetzel (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Retrievers with a third place finish at 28:17, while teammates John Commins (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford), Mike Caputi (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and Mike Brady (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) also placed in the top 10.
