Hartford’s Heather Hinton (Neshanic Station, N.J./Hillsborough) was named America East Player of the Week and UMBC’s Amanda DiCarlo (Ontario, Canada/St. Paul’s) was named America East Rookie of the Week to round out the Week 6 women’s soccer accolades. The awards were announced Monday, September 13, 2003.
Hinton recorded 27 saves over three games during the week for Hartford. She helped to preserve a 2-2 tie against Vermont as she recorded 10 saves, including six in the two overtime periods. On Sunday, she made a career-best 16 saves in net against the University of Connecticut as the Hawks pulled out a 1-0 win over the Huskies, who were ranked number 10 in the nation.
DiCarlo collected her first two collegiate goals as the Retrievers defeated conference rival Albany 3-0. Both goals came in the second half as UMBC earned its fourth straight win.
