Northeastern's Kristin Ursillo (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) earned America East Player of the Week honors, while Albany's Alexis Bowens (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) took home Rookie of the Week and Stony Brook's Julie Zub (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) garnered Setter of the Week honors on September 3.
Ursillo led the Huskies to a perfect 3-0 record on the week and the 2002 Colgate Invitational Championship. For her outstanding play Ursillo was named Tournament MVP. In the three-match event, she averaged 1.22 kills per game, 12.33 assists per game, 2.33 digs per game and five total service aces. Ursillo’s best match of the tournament came against Tulsa as she recorded 40 assists and 11 digs for her first double-double of the 2002 season.
Bowens turned in one of the top 10 performances in NCAA history in her first collegate match when she hit .875 with 21 kills on 24 attacks against Lafayette on August 30. She led the Great Danes to a 3-0 win in the season opener, their first opening-day win since 1997. In two matches at the Great Dane Invitational, Bowens had 34 kills (4.86 per game) on 53 attacks, for a stellar .604 hitting percentage. She also contributed five digs and two total blocks for the week.
Zub tallied 178 assists to help lead the Seawolves to 3-1 record and a first place finish at the Robert Morris University King's Classic this past weekend. Her 12.71 assists per game leads the conference.
