Lopp, Peterson Are Spalding Honorees

Spalding Player of the Week: University of Hartford senior forward Janeka Lopp (Downington, Pa./Downington) had a big week for the Hawks as Hartford swept both games to get back in the thick of the America East standings. She scored a game-high 20 points as the Hawks defeated Northeastern, 78-58, sweeping the season series for the first time since the 1996-97 season ... She added six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Against conference leading Binghamton on Sunday, Lopp again had a big game for the Hawks, scoring 13 points, and adding a season-high seven rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals. Her biggest contribution came with Hartford down two with 6:19 to play. At that point, she knocked down a three-pointer to put the Hawks up one, 44-43, and after the Bearcats tied the score with a free throw, hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Hawks a four point lead, 48-44. Lopp leads Hartford is scoring at 12.5 points per game.

Spalding Rookie of the Week: Freshman forward Monica Peterson of University of Maine (Wilmington, Del./A.I. DuPont) averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds a game … She shot 11-21 .524 from the field and 9-10 from the line … She had 20 points and 11 rebounds at BU then added 11 points and 12 rebounds versus Stony Brook for two straight and five career double-doubles … Peterson registered seven points, six rebounds, and four blocks in the second half as UMaine overcame a 40-29 deficit to Stony Brook … She had a career-high five blocks in the game.
