Junior forward Heather Ernest (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) of Maine was named the Wilson Player of the Week and first-year guard Jen Blues (Overland Park, Kan./ Blue Valley North) of Binghamton was named Rookie of the Week by America East on December 16.
Ernest had a game-high 23 points annd 14 rebounds in leading Maine to a 65-58 road victory at Rhode Island. The win evened Maine’s record at 3-3. The double-double was Ernest’s first of the season and 24th of her career. Ernest logged her 23 points on 8-16 shooting from the field, with one three-pointer, and 6-of-7 shooting at the free-throw line. Ernest’s lone three came immediately after URI’s Yolett McPhee drained a three midway through the second half to briefly give the Rams the lead. The Ernest trey triggered a 12-2 Black Bear run that put Maine ahead for good.
Blues scored a team-high 13 points against Columbia and had nine points against Manhattan on Saturday. She continues to lead Binghamton in scoring with 13.8 points per game.
