Senior Jenny Payne of Stony Brook earned All-America status at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Monday (November 25). Boston University Jochen Dieckfoss and New Hampshire senior Dan Hocking finished 44th and 56th, respectively, in the men's championship there.
Payne, the 2002 America East champion, ran the 6,000 meter course in 20:17.6, finishing in the No. 23 spot. With that finish, she becomes the first All-American in cross country for Stony Brook. Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina captured the women's individual title with a time of 19:36.0.
Dieckfoss, a three-time America East champion, covered the 8,000 meter course in 30:39.0. Hocking ran 30:47.0. Jorge Torres of Colorado was the men's individual champion in 29:04.7.
