Seniors Jeff Barry of Vermont and Joe Drapeau of Maine were named to the 2003 Preseason All-America Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Barry was named to the second team as an outfielder while Drapeau was the third baseman on the third team.
Barry, the 2002 America East Player of the Year, was the conference batting champion at
.401 and led the league in stolen bases (a Vermont-record 32 in 34 attempts),
hits (another Vermont record, 71) and triples while ranking among the leaders
in seven other offensive categories.
Drapeau batted .341 last season with a conference-leading 11 home runs and 61 RBI in 57 games. He helped lead the Black Bears to a 40-17 campaign, the America East Championship and a berth in the NCAA Championship.
