Northeastern senior middle hitter Erin Spangler (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) takes home Baden America East Volleyball Player of the Week honors for week nine, while fellow Husky, middle hitter Larissa Adomat (Houston, Texas/Westfield), earns Rookie of the Week honors. New Hampshire junior setter Anne Davis (Groveland, Ill./Notre Dame) garnered Setter of the Week honors on October 28.
Spangler was Northeastern’s top performer on the week as the Huskies went 2-0 in league action. Spangler averaged 2.71 kills per game, 3.14 digs per game and 1.71 blocks per game, while hitting a team-high .359 on the week. She tallied 11 kills, 15 digs and seven total blocks in NU’s 3-1 win over Albany. Spangler’s solid back row play on the week (3.14 dpg) was much needed for NU as the Huskies were without starting libero Kelly Cognac (leg injury) and backup libero Sara Bill was in and out of the lineup with an injured thumb. Spangler became Northeastern’s all-time leader in solo blocks versus Albany as she now has 93, passing Gianina Pellegrini’s (1997-98, 2001) mark of 92. Spangler is also 13 shy of Pellegrini’s career total blocks mark of 389 and 14 short of her block assist record of 297.
Adomat wins the award for the third time after she averaged an impressive 4.14 kills per game, 1.29 digs per game and 1.29 blocks per game, while hitting .356 on the week. Adomat’s best match came against Albany on Saturday when she tallied 17 kills (.424 hitting percentage), six digs and five blocks. She also continues to lead the America East in hitting percentage (.391) as she has all season long.
Davis registered 79 assists on the weekend and averaged 9.88 assists while adding 20 digs, four kills, and three blocks in eight games as the Wildcats defeated conference foes Albany and Binghamton to remain in a tie for first place in America East standings.
