Bennett Repeats as Top Rookie, Akerlund Also Honored

Hartford junior forward Jeanette Akerlund (Stockholm, Sweden/Eriksdalsskolan) was named America East Player of the Week while Stony Brook goalkeeper Cindy Bennett (Canton, Mich./Belleville) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second-straight time. The awards were announced on Monday, October 21.

Akerlund scored three goals and adding two assists for eight points as the Hawks went 3-0-0. She registered her second hat trick of the season in a 4-0 win at Vermont Thursday (October 17) and added assists in the 2-1 overtime win at Brown Tuesday (October 15) and the 3-0 win over Albany Sunday (October 20).

Bennett posted back-to-back shutouts in the Seawolves 1-0-1 week. She had five saves in a scoreless draw with New Hampshire on Sunday (October 20). Since returning from a shoulder injury on October 11 vs. Boston University, Bennett has not allowed a goal as the Seawolves have gone 2-0-1 to earn seven points in the America East standings.
