Stony Brook's sophomore outside hitter Valerie Maloy (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and sophomore setter Julie Zub (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) earn Baden Player and Setter of the Week honors, respectively, while Northeastern's Larissa Adomat (Houston, Texas/Westfield) and Albany's Eileen Nicole Rodriguez (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Colegio Ponceno) share Baden Rookie of the Week recognition on October 21.
Maloy helped lead the Stony Brook Seawolves to a 2-0 week with wins coming over conference opponents Binghamton and Albany. Maloy posted two double-doubles on the weekend, averaging 4.67 kills per game to go along with her 2.89 per-game average in the digs category. Friday night, Maloy’s double-double (14 kills/12 digs) against Binghamton helped the Seawolves take the victory in five and Saturday night, Maloy again scored a double-double (28 kills/14 digs) in the 3-1 win over Albany. Maloy’s 28 kills sets a new career high for her, eclipsing her old mark of 26.
Zub was instrumental in leading the Stony Brook Seawolves to a 2-0 week against conference opponents Albany and Binghamton. Zub averaged 13.11 assists per game over the weekend and also played an important role on defense, digging an average of 2.67 balls per game. Zub’s 62 assists Friday night in the 3-2 win over Binghamton set a new school record for assists in a five game match. In addition to her 62 assists she also killed four balls. Saturday night Zub continued to post impressive numbers, tallying 56 more assists and 16 digs.
Adomat continues to lead the conference in hitting percentage as she hit an impressive .422 on the week. She also averaged 3.7 kills per game, 1.3 blocks per game and 1.0 digs per game. Adomat had double digit kills performances (10 vs. UConn, 12 vs. Maine) in both of NU’s games on the week.
Rodriguez averaged 2.6 kills, 2.8 service aces and 2.2 digs in 10 games played, logging a .233 hitting percentage in 60 total attacks. She recorded 12 kills, 7 aces & 11 digs in a four-game loss to Stony Brook, 7 kills, 10 aces & 6 digs in the Hartford victory, and 7 kills, 11 aces & 5 digs in a three-game Iona win. Rodriguez has recorded 10-plus service aces in six matches, and continues to lead the nation in aces per game with a 2.00 average.
