Northeastern junior midfielder Atha Kirkopoulos (Altbach, Germany/Reutlingen University) and Vermont sophomore forward Tony Anderson (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Malachy's) shared America East Player of the Week honors while Northeastern goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem) was named Rookie of the Week. The awards were named on Monday, October 14.
Kirkopoulos had the game-winning goal in overtime in back-to-back games for the Huskies. His goal in the 94th minute ended a 2-1 win over Hartford Wednesday (October 9) and then he scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 95th minute to win at Stony Brook, 2-1, on Saturday (October 12).
Anderson had a goal and an assist last week as the Catamounts went 1-0-1 to improve to 3-0-1 atop the America East standings. He set up the game-tying goal by Scott Webb in the 54th minute of a 1-1 tie vs. New Hampshire Wednesday (October 9) then added both Catamount goals in the come-from-behind 2-1 win at Binghamton Saturday (October 12). Anderson scored in the 67th minute to tie the game, 1-1, and added the game-winner in the 76th minute. He now has seven goals and four assists for 18 points to rank second in America East scoring (1.39 ppg).
Saccoccio posted back-to-back 2-1 overtime wins last week. He had six saves, including a stop of a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless, in the 2-1 win at Stony Brook Saturday (October 12).
