First-year guards Chaz Carr (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) of Boston University and Charles Ford (Upper Marlboro, Md./Notre Dame Prep) of Hartford are the Spalding Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced by America East on Janaury 21.
Carr scored 36 points and added five assists in the Terriers' 95-88 overtime win at Northeastern. Carr was 9-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-6 beyond the three-point arc. His drive and layup with 1.9 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime, where he promptly scored seven of the Terriers' 18 points in the extra session. The 5-10 guard now leads the Terriers and ranks No. 8 in America East in scoring with 13.87 ppg.
Ford had 30 points, on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor, and added three assists and four steals as the Hawks handed Vermont its first America East loss on Sunday. The 5-11 guard held the top two scorers in America East (Errick Greene of Maine and T.J. Sorrentine of Vermont) to a combined 9-of-28 from the floor in the two Hawk wins.
