Madden, Evans, Elliott Are Weekly Winners

Towson senior setter Melanie Madden (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks), teammate outside hitter Meghan Evans (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) and Maine sophomore Cheryl Elliott (Puslinch, Ontario/Forest Heights) were named Spalding Player, Rookie and Setter of the Week, respectively, by America East for the week ending September 4.

Madden, who led the Tigers to a perfect 3-0 start at the Marist Invitational last week, was named Spalding Player of the Week. She had 34 kills (3.78/game) while hitting .391 for the week with 4 digs. Towson's 3-0 mark is its best season start since 1990.

Evans had 10 service aces and hit .328 for the week as the Tigers swept the Marist Invitational. Evans leads America East with 0.91 service aces per game and is third in hitting percentage (.328).

Elliott, an All-Rookie Team selection in 2000, was very steady for the Black Bears, recording 99 assists in three matches (11.00/game). She led the team with a .406 hitting percentage, recording 16 kills and only three errors. She was fourth with 22 digs (2.44/game) out of the setter position and second on the team with six blocks. She had a match-high 39 assists in Maine’s only win over the weekend against Army.
