Volckers, Maloy, Elliott are Spalding Volleyball Honorees

Spalding Player of the Week: Hartford freshman outside hitter Stephanie Volckers (Hamburg, Germany) had a very strong week as she continues to be the top hitter for the Hawks. She registered 31 kills, 19 digs, 2 BS and 2 BA in five-game loss to Siena on Wednesday. She added 20 kills (.372), 12 digs and a block in 3-0 win over Quinnipiac, 34 kills, 38 digs and four service aces in a five-game loss to Princeton and had 34 kills, 22 digs and five block solos in a win over Rider. She was the lone Hawk named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. She leads the team with 188 kills (6.06 per game) and a .292 hitting percentage this season. She also leads the team with 121 digs (3.90 per game).

Spalding Rookie of the Week: Stony Brook first-year outside hitter Valerie Maloy (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) averaged over 4.2 kills and 2.4 digs per game for the Seawolves in five matches this week. Maloy turned it up at the Big Red Invitational, collecting 23 kills and 23 digs against Fairleigh-Dickinson, 26 kills and 14 digs versus Manhattan and another 14 kills against the host Cornell. Maloy had 84 total kills on the week and hit .305. She collected 11 service aces in the five matches including six against Manhattan. She leads the team in hitting percentage and kills and is second in digs. Maloy was selected to the Big Red Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

Spalding Setter of the Week: Maine sophomore setter Cheryl Elliott (Puslinch, Ont./Forest Heights) recorded 129 assists in three matches at the Delaware Invitational, just missing a season-high with 54 against UMBC. She had 25 digs over the weekend to tie for second on the Black Bears, and also chipped in with 16 kills. She was one of two Maine players selected to the All-Tournament Team. Elliott leads the team with 18 service aces and is second in hitting percentage (.217). She is second in the conference in assists per game (10.44).
