Katie Terhune (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) of Boston University and Becky Ayers (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) of Albany were named Spalding Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by America East on December 10.
Terhune scored a career-high 33 points in the Terriers’ 76-67 win over Yale on Dec. 5. With Boston University leading 43-25 at the break, Yale went on a 19-5 run to open the second half. Terhune answered, scoring 14 points in the final eight minutes to seal the Terrier victory. On the night, Terhune was 3-for-4 from three-point range and 14-of-16 from the free throw line. This season, she has led the Terriers in scoring in seven of their eight games, averaging 21 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. Terhune leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (.444) and is second on the team in free throw percentage (.846) and steals (1.8 spg). At 6-2, the Terriers are off to their best start in seven seasons.
Ayers averaged 16.5 points, including 75 percent shooting from three-point range in two Albany victories last week. Ayers, who was making only the second and third starts of her career, totaled 16 points in Albany’s thrilling 65-63 overtime win at Army. Down 58-53 with 1:50 to go, it was Ayers’ old-fashioned three-point play that tied the game at 58 with 1:03 remaining. Three days later, Ayers scored a career-high 17 points in Albany's 55-52 victory over Sacred Heart. For the week, Ayers converted 6-of-8 three-pointers, shot 53 percent from the field and drained 9-of-10 free throws. Additionally, she committed one turnover in 56 minutes of action
