Spalding Player of the Week: Senior guard Libby Smith (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) of Vermont is the Spalding Player of the Week after averaging 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and four rebounds in a 2-0 opening weekend for Vermont. Smith was Vermont’s leading scorer with a game-high 14 points and grabbed five rebounds at St. Bonaventure and added a team-high 16 points , seven rebounds and five assists in a 92-52 win over Canisius. Smith became the seventh player to hand out 300-plus assists with four in the first half versus Canisius. She also passed Kristen (Gladu) Cieplicki, the wife of head coach Keith Cieplicki, on the all-time scoring list with 16 points versus Canisius.
Spalding Rookie of the Week: Freshman guard Missy Traversi (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) of Maine is the Spalding Rookie of the Week. She scored 10 points and led UMaine with five assists and three steals in the season-opening win against Kent State. She also grabbed five rebounds. She scored UMaine’s first points of the season and added an assist on a game-starting 9-0 run. UMaine never trailed in the game. Traversi led UMaine with 18 points at 15th-ranked Georgia. She recorded four of Maine’s seven steals in the game while also leading Maine with six assists.
