Spalding Player of the Week: New Hampshire sophomore outside hitter Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, CA/Los Gatos) totaled 53 kills, 33 digs, five blocks, and four service aces in three matches last week. Her .312 hitting percentage was tops on the team during that stretch. Coler’s 28 kills vs. Northeastern was two short of the school record. She also had nine digs against the Huskies and a remarkable .397 hitting percentage on 63 attack attempts. In UNH’s 3-1 America East opening victory over Maine Coler picked up 15 kills, 12 digs and four service aces. Against Albany, Coler had 10 kills and 12 digs.
Spalding Rookie of the Week: Stony Brook first-year outside hitter Valerie Maloy (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) averaged 4.36 kills per game as the Seawolves opened America East Conference play with a 2-1 mark. Maloy had 13 kills against Hartford at home and then had 19 at Towson and another 16 at Drexel. The outside-hitter hit .221 on the week, highlighted by a .278 performance at Drexel on Sunday, collecting 16 kills and six errors in 36 attempts. Maloy also 16 digs and six service aces on the week.
Spalding Setter of the Week: Maine sophomore setter Cheryl Elliott (Puslinch, Ont./Ridley College) continued her record setting season with a single-match Maine all-time record 68 assists in a five-game loss to Northeastern, her 59 assists in a four-game defeat of Albany are second only to her NU performance this season. She also added 48 assists in a four-game loss to UNH this week. 175 assists in 3 matches, averaging 13.46 assists per game this week. She also added 4 service aces in the three matches.
