Deatherage, Volckers, LaBlanc are Spaulding Honorees

Spalding Player of the Week: Northeastern senior outside hitter Kristin Deatherage (Huntington Beach, Calif./Fountain Valley) led the Huskies to a perfect 3-0 week including two conference wins to remain undefeated in America East play. She led the Huskies in kills this week notching up 12 against Holy Cross and hitting an impressive .474. She added 15 kills and five blocks against Stony Brook while hitting .419, and 17 kills against Hartford. Deatherage averaged 4.0 kills, 0.7 blocks, and 1.3 digs while hitting .363 for the week. She has recorded double-digit kills in 16 of the Huskies’ 20 matches, including the last 14 straight, and has 4 double-doubles this season.

Spalding Rookie of the Week: Hartford first-year outside hitter Stephanie Volckers (Hamburg, Germany) led the way for a 1-1 week for Hartford posting 51 kills and 16 digs in two matches over the weekend. She had a match-high 33 kills and hit .304 in a five-set win over Albany on Saturday giving the Hawks their first conference win of the season. She also added two block solos and two block assists in the win. In a loss to Northeastern she had a match-high 18 kills and also added three service aces and six digs. Volckers continues to lead the Hawks averaging 5.82 kills per game, more than 1.3 kills more than the existing school record. Her 344 kills are more than any Hawk player had last season.

Spalding Setter of the Week: Towson senior setter Andrea LaBlanc (Brookfield, Wis./Pius XI) continues to dominate at the setter positions with 111 assists in two America East wins. She had 61 of the team’s 65 assists against New Hampshire, also adding four kills, 14 digs and two block assists. Sunday she hit .667 against the Black Bears with 10 kills on 15 attempts and adding 50 assists. She also had two service aces and 14 digs against Maine. In Tuesday’s win over Coppin, she had 20 assists in two games with one service ace and one block assist.
